domestic violence awareness

The Alpha Chi Omega Foundation is dedicated to supporting domestic violence awareness, prevention, and education. The national altruistic project is enacted throughout the nation among the numerous Alpha Chi chapters across the country.

The Alpha Tau chapter of Alpha Chi Omega is committed to raising awareness of domestic violence. We work to raise awareness of A Safe House in NH. To raise money, each year, the women of Alpha Chi Omega host their annual Coffee House in the fall. In the spring, our chapter has hosted other events such as a flag football tournament, a kick ball tournament, and a barbeque.

In the year, Alpha Chi Omega is proud to say that they have raised approximately $5k for the fight against domestic violence.

A NIGHT OF COFFEE, FOOD, AND ACAPELLA PERFORMANCES

Our annual Coffee House is a night of coffee, desserts, and Durham's finest musical talents for the entire UNH Community. While being serenaded in our lovely home at Alpha Chi Omega, guests enjoy the many talents that lie at UNH while contributing to the amazing cause of domestic violence awareness. One of our very own embraces her musical talents that our sorority is oh so proud of because of our history as a musical sorority. This night is one the community enjoys because of the laid back and effortless fun. Between the refreshments, treats, musical talent, and socializing...the annual coffee house is undebatably a fabulous time.

"Growing up, I never knew how much of a impact a group of people could actually have in working towards a large-scale issue. Being apart of Alpha Chi Omega has shown me that a sorority--especially the girls at UNH--can have more of an impact than I ever could have thought. I have learned so much about how and why so many women are affected by domestic violence each year. The fact that we can and are helping raise money for domestic violence awareness speaks so much to why we all were meant to be sisters. Being VP of Philanthropy has let me really see the impact we have as an organization. It is so much larger and more meaningful than I ever knew. Our philanthropies over the years, such as sports games and our very own Coffee House, bring us closer together, help us realize why we support this cause, and how important DVA is. I feel so honored to have been able to hold the position of VP of Philanthropy for the past year and truly feel apart of something bigger than myself. I have always loved community service and getting involved in philanthropy in the past, but I have a greater appreciation--now more than ever--for the girls of Alpha Chi and what we stand for as a sorority." -Emma D, Junior. Former VP of Philanthropy.
